Natural Health- An Ounce of PreventionTo advertise in thew

With winter suddenly upon us it is important to take positive preventative steps to protect our health. The sudden change in climate and our extensive party schedule can really take its toll. The main focus is to boost our immune system so that we are better equipped to cope, rather like a service for the car to perform better

instead of waiting until it

breaks down, which takes a lot more time and money to get it running well again.

The first thing you can do is free and available to anyone. WALK! Yes, as simple as that.

Fight the inclination to stay indoors because it is cold. Research has shown that moderate walking for at least 20 minutes will help fight colds, prevent weight gain, (from all that partying) and make you feel good, by releasing seratin, the feel good chemical in your brain.

The other important thing we can all do is to feed our immune system to fight off the ravages of winter. This can be addressed with a natural supplement regime.

Echinacea should be taken daily for 4-6 weeks. This herb has been used by the Native Americans for hundreds of years to prevent colds, flu and chest infections.

It is also believed to protect you from poisons which can be very debilitating. Food and alcohol is what I have in mind.

• Garlic is a fantastic tonic. It super boosts other supplements and is a powerful cleanser and strengthens the lungs. I prefer to take this combined with thyme; another super food used by the Native Americans to help maintain a healthy system.

Finally, vitamin C. We all know that our body cannot function without it, however we cannot make it or store it so we need to take it daily. At this time of year we do not readily take it through our foods, as it is predominantly available in fresh fruit, vegetables and salads. Beware of mega doses as they tend to be too high for the body to assimilate and just get flushed out. I recommend a lower dose mixed with a bran matrix that stays in the digestive tract

to be absorbed steadily throughout the day.

So with the old adage ‘An ounce of prevention is better than an pound of cure’, may I wish you a healthy month.
