Age is not a obstacle, but rather an opportunity!!
Many people’s perception of Rotarians is of middle aged, and senior citizens, throwing thousands of yellow ducks into the Allan Water, organising a Golf competition, or encouraging everybody to run or walk a relatively short distance in the time it takes to play Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. All of these commendable activities are organised to raise money for worthy charities.
However, the range of ages of people involved with the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane goes from pre-teens to eighties. It may surprise you to know that there are more active participants under the age of nineteen than there are full members of the ‘parent’ Club.
The Club’s close relationship with the Queen Victoria School has resulted in the establishing of a very committed Interact Club, for the 12 to 18 year olds, and of a Rotakids Club for the up to 12 age group. While both “junior” clubs organise, and deliver, on their own projects; the “parent” club members are regularly involved with them. We even have joint events, when we organise ourselves into teams, including members from each club, and play a selection of mental and physical games!!
The “parent club” is keen to sponsor school
children in challenging
opportunities. We recently sent a delegate to the European Parliament at Strasbourg as a Rotary “Euroscola”, where she was only allowed to speak French, while mixing with children from many other European countries during a fi ve day visit.
In fact there are a wide range of other Rotary projects for the younger generation. In addition to the Young Chef, Young Musician, Young Photographer and the Primary School Quiz, which National competitions; there is also an opportunity for young people to take part in the “Rotary Youth Leadership Award” which is given for outstanding service in the local community.

At the moment several other schools in the area are looking to develop similar youth projects to those outlined above and we welcome involvement from anyone who is interested.
