Thermo-Casa Supports Little Hiccups

Normally in this section, we bring you some news about the property market, usually supplied by one of our advertisers. This month, we asked Thermo-Casa to write a few words for us. Instead of promoting their business, they asked if we could write something about a charity that’s dear to their heart.

It’s always heartening to hear when local companies are supporting worthy causes. At Female Focus we are delighted to have the opportunity to help these companies spread the word to other people to help them further the cause even more. One such case is the support Themo-Casa in Moraira has given to Little Hiccups.

Little Hiccups is a Leeds based support group that has been set up by two mums who both have children with special needs. Through personal experience they recognise the importance of allowing the parents and families of a child with a disability the opportunity to meet people in similar situations, to make friends and support each other. While parents have a chance to chat over a coffee, children are able to learn through play, make friends and have fun! Activitiies include arts and crafts, day trips, guest speakers and social events for parents… And of course fund-raising events.

One such event was a charitable step marathon, the idea being to get as many people to walk up and down as many steps as possible. The target was for 1,000,000 (yes: 1 million) steps. In fact, the event achieved 1,219,786 steps. The day was a massive success with the weather turning out beautiful. We had families enjoying their picnics and children playing in the park. But best of all was the enthusiasm of all the runners. From children as young as 18 months, Little Hiccup families all the way up to boxers and some very fit people indeed - everyone gave it their absolute best.

Thermo-Casa were proud to support the event and even donated a ‘special needs buggy’. Also in attendance was former boxing champ John H. Stracy who presented the buggy and also donated a fantastic collage of his boxing career to be auctioned later.
