The Calpe and Benissa Lions have recently re-opened the charity shop at Pintor Sorrolla, Calpe after summer, to customers to sell goods and receive donations. What has continued during August is the support given by the Lions to the local charities in need. Each and every month a donation of 250€ is given to Caritas Benissa and 250€ to Caritas Calpe as well as 250€ each month to Calpe Ayuda. The Calpe and Benissa Lions also regularly contribute to Gargasindi School Calpe, Emaus Benissa and Calpe, Red Cross as well as “one-off” donations to other organisations in need. The charity shop has raised just in excess of 15,000€ since it opened last year all of which goes towards good causes as the Lions are a non-profit making organisation. The shop could not run without a tremendous effort from an army of volunteers and all volunteers offer their help at the shop without being reimbursed for expenses or their time. The Lions themselves also put a great deal of effort and time into events that raise money for all of the excellent causes listed above.
The Calpe and Benissa Lions Charity Shop re-opened
Being a Lion is very worthwhile and offers a lot of satisfaction especially when you see the good that is achieved from the money that is raised. Their motto is “we serve” and this year Calpe and Benissa Lions are looking to recruit new members. If you think you are the type of person that would like to help and also benefit from being involved in all the social activities the Lions have to offer, then you can go along to a meeting just to see if it is your ‘cup of tea’ and to get a flavour of what they do.
