Going Out - Page 46 Charity Golf Event Raises 760€
We are delighted that Costa Calida Golf Tours have once again chosen MABS as their charity for 2014 and what a great day over at Mar Menor Golf Resort for Event 7 of
the Costa Calida Golf Days, which was their designated annual charity day where a full compliment of 40 players took part. The course at Mar Menor was in superb condition with fairways like carpets and consistant greens. Many thanks to Luke Murphy and his team for allowing a two tee start and ensuring the day ran smoothly. This was Costa Calida Golf Tours designated charity day and 760€ was raised on the day for MABS Cancer Support. Cancer doesn’t discriminate and neither do MABS, we help anyone of any nationality affected by Cancer. MABS helpline 693 275 779. HELP sponsored sky dive On June 4th 2013 Peter Davis of Valle del Portet, Benitachell sadly lost
his battle with lung cancer. His wife Carol is a volunteer in the HELP shop in Moraira. On May 28th this year Lee Evans of Swindon, UK did a
sponsored skydive at Charteris airport March Cambridgeshire. His parents paid all his expenses for his 18th birthday present. He decided to donate all the money to HELP as they had provided his granddad with much care, translation, and helpful equipment during his illness.
Lee asked for sponsors in UK and we asked cash here in our area. The picture shows Judith Goodall, President of HELP receiving a cheque for an amazing 1,120 Euros from Lee along with members of the family.
1000€ raised for MABS
You will probably remember the story of the 2 guys cycling from Murcia to Stroud in aid of MABS. They did it and are now back in Spain. 1000€ was raised for MABS by Keith Redger which is marvellous. Here are some interesting statistics: Total kilometres covered - 2,071. Actual hours of cycling during trip - 105 hours & 30 mins Ascents - 16,563 kilometres. Descents - 16,659 kilometres. Calories used up by each person in total - 67,205. Ride took 19 days (including rest days). A cheque for 1000€ was presented to MABS last week at Helen’s Kitchen in Roldan who have been supporting Keith (67) and George (70) since the cycle ride started. George raised money for Cystic Fybrosis. The photo shows Jill Chorley and Janet Bell both from MABS being presented with the cheque by Keith Redger & George Burrage.
U3A Denia Allotment Group Recently the Allotment Group held its annual Barbecue at the founder members house near La Xara. At the event judges decided which was the best plot of the year and the winner received a silver plaque and a certificate of excellence. Judging
is always carried out by independent judges who were from the U3A, Pam Rollinson and Barbara Tyrell. The winner this year was Derek Newton-Goverd. Also for the last three
years an extra event has been introduced by Steve Jones ‘the allotment warden’ - A Petanque Championship! This is played on our own petanque pitch and after an exciting and very warm play-off The Petanque Cup was won by Jeff and Janet Taylor. It was a very enjoyable day although quite hot. If anyone would like to grow their own produce in a beautiful quite location at present we have one plot available due to a member returning to the UK. Contact Steve Jones on 966 074 502.
Teulada Moraira Lions´ Club Summer Concerts
The concert given by Black Glitter on the Seafront in Moraira - and sponsored by Costa Blanca Business Association on Sunday 17th August, was just brilliant. After the rain which fell earlier in the day, the weather thankfully improved and produced a gloriously balmy evening; the audience was large, appreciative of the great music from the band and, above all, generous. Three weeks previously, the first Seaside Concert of 2014, featuring the “Lady Gaga” Tribute Show, put over 1500€ into the collecting buckets wielded by TM Lions - a record for these events - but on 17th August the audience showed their appreciation of a barnstorming performance by a Black Glitter on top form by pouring 1610€ into the collecting buckets! A massive “thank you” to everyone there who gave - it really is appreciated.
