Marina Alta Strongman Event 2014
Dan Hills has always had a passion for fitness and strength conditioning. In 2013 he showed this commitment with the launch of The Gym Moraira. Due to his dedication and hard work and supportive family, Dan has managed to successfully launch his business and has established himself within the Moraira Community.
It was a passing conversation with Lisa and Alex Childs regarding sport in schools, that Dan explained how equipment and investment was woefully lacking. Having only moved to Spain earlier that year Lisa & Alex decided that to make an impact on the local community they now call home, that a sporting charity could be a way of giving back. The result was the launch of the Marina Alta Sports Charity. The plan, to put on events and exhibitions for the public to try and raise funds through sport!
Dan already had the inaugural event in mind! A Strongman Competition to attract the biggest, strongest men in Spain and Internationally to Moraira! No easy feat in a foreign country, but the three of them decided to give it a go. Dan himself will be partaking in the event as the local representative!
The event has been given full sign off and support by the Teulada Town Hall. Arrangements have been made to close off the large car park in the centre of town near the main beach and put on a show over two days.
On Saturday 20th September from 10am, around 12 of the Strongest Men we could find will battle it out over 10 events. The first 5 will be on the Saturday and then the following day Sunday 21st September another 5 are being undertaken. Think Geoff Capes only bigger! These men will show feats of strength such as the classic Car Lift, Truck Pull and Stone Carry. For the winner, 1.500€ in prize money and the crowning champion of Marina Alta Strongman 2014.
Teulada Townhall have also granted a license to put on a live free concert on the Saturday evening for the residents and this will be organised by one of the hardest working men in the music business Stewart Collier of Javea and his Rock Academy School.
All events and entertainment that have been put on will be free to the public. The Festeros will also be putting on food and drink and toilets on site to allow people to stay and make the most of the show. All monies raised will go to purchase new sport equipment for the schools in the Marina Alta Region.
Latest News: Confirmed competitors in the Strongman Competition include Graham Hicks, 3rd place finisher of the European Strongman Event in Leeds, England. Sergiu Mirzenco, Strongman Romania Runner Up and winner of the Moldavian Strongman Cup and Sergio Fernandez, Spanish Strongman winner.
