they wanted that space to feel. The atmosphere of the office and the people in it really speaks to the passion that the company and its employees feel towards design and its processes.”


Chris Godfrey, creative head at 1508 London, said: “We believe the link between the academic world and business world is vital. What was really rewarding for me was how Jessica was completely blown away by the set up here. It was a joy to see someone new light up and respond in that way.”


Another student who took part in the trip, Kimberly Dawson, said: “I learned a lot about how people in London live differently from us in the United States. We also discovered more about the nature and the expensiveness of housing in London, and


the differences in furniture and the materials that are used in creating spaces.”


Graduates with disciplinary expertise, and knowledge of globalisation and international affairs, have a greater standing in the 21st century workforce. They are better able to work in an international setting, adapt to diverse cultures and communicate across boundaries.


The importance of


international experience for interior design students will follow them through their careers. It is highly valued by universities in the States and, more importantly, by potential employers.


Being exposed to different ways of working and thinking about design can have a really beneficial effect on a designer’s thinking.
