NCIDQ in the UK

NCIDQ, the globally recognised mark of a professional in interior design, will soon be available to UK and European interior professionals through SBID

I

n 2011, SBID finalised an agreement with its sister organisation in the US and Canada to bring the NCIDQ international qualification to Britain.

The National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) is an independent not-for-profit organisation (profits are returned to members not shareholders) set up in North America in the 1970s. Its main role is to administer and oversee the NCIDQ Examination of knowledge competence.

Many people still use the terms ‘interior design’ and ‘interior decorating’ interchangeably, but these occupations differ in crucial ways. The NCIDQ qualification measures the competence and qualification of an interior designer and

makes that distinction between interior design and interior decoration.

All NCIDQ Certificate holders have been educated, trained and examined to protect public health, safety and welfare. Acquisition of the certificate is proof that the holder is a

professional interior designer.

Interior designers who meet NCIDQ’s requirements and pass the rigorous examination are assigned a unique NCIDQ Certificate number that attests to their qualifications for employers and the general public.

Currently there are more than 29,000 individuals around the world who have earned the NCIDQ Certificate.

And now the accreditation is coming to Britain and Europe for the first time.

All NCIDQ Certificate holders have been educated, trained and examined to protect public health, safety and welfare. Acquisition of the certificate is proof that the holder is a professional interior designer

SBID has spent years negotiating the agreement to introduce the NCIDQ Exam on this side of the Atlantic.

When a client hires a NCIDQ Certificate holder and SBID accredited interior designer they will know they are hiring

a professional with proven knowledge, experience and proficiency in interior design principles, practices and compliance. Proficiency in compliance is a key issue and directly addresses the legal obligations and liabilities that are a consequence of providing advice.
