T
he brief for the Conservatory in Melbourne was to make guests feel as if they had been instantly transported to London, Shanghai
or New York during a bygone era when craftsmanship was revered and buildings and interiors were designed to endure.
By employing traditional craftsmanship techniques, such as the marble panel detailing used on the restaurant’s pillars, the team from Blainey North aimed to create a sense of timeless permanence and make guests feel immediately at ease.
The overall design is reminiscent of traditional English conservatories, with Art Deco detailing and references to Georgian grandeur.
All lighting, carpets and furniture have been custom designed to suit the space. A concept behind the design was taking century-old techniques and adapting them to a modern context. This can be seen in the use of traditional fluted details on the bar or the restaurant’s solid metal screens.
Blainey North, whose head office is in Sydney, is a design studio specialising in bespoke luxury projects.
