Recipe for success
SBID has joined forces with the two leading organisations in the British kbb industry to launch a design accreditation that recognises excellence in the sector
T
he accreditation will, for the first time, allow qualified kitchen and
bathroom designers to be recognised for their kbb design skills and experience.
The Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association (KBSA) and the kbb National Training Group (NTG) have teamed up with SBID to recognise the individual and separate skills of a kitchen and/or bathroom designer within the existing framework of SBID.
Designers can apply independently or through their practice to use the newly created SBID- KBB accreditation.
Vanessa Brady, President of SBID, said: “This is a significant development and presents the first genuine opportunity for kbb designers to be recognised as specialist professionals.
“The way people use their kitchens has evolved over the years. It has become more of a living space
and the communal hub of the household and now it often forms part of the communal living space. That creates new challenges and new opportunities for kitchen designers and this accreditation reflects their growing importance in an integrated industry.”
To apply designers will need to show evidence of four years in higher education plus two years’ work experience, or eight years’ experience. Members are required to undertake 24 hours of CPD (Continued Professional Development) learning each year and they must comply with the SBID International Code of Conduct.
Graham Ball, CEO at KBSA, said: “We are delighted to be able to launch this groundbreaking initiative that will enable designers to differentiate their service and promote their expertise under the well-respected banner of SBID. There are clear and transparent rules for entry and the additional CPD element ensures that the accreditation is robust and worthy.
“The industry has been calling for an official and stringent test of competence for design professionals that operate in kitchens and bathrooms, and we are confident that this accreditation will be welcomed.”
The on-going training will be facilitated by the kbb National Training Group. Renée Mascari, CEO, said: “Education is vital for any accreditation system to be successful so we are delighted to be part of this fantastic new opportunity.”
SBID is providing a promotional membership rate for qualified designers that are employed by KBSA registered retailers. Membership allows designers to use the accreditation letters after their name and for KBSA members to use the SBID logo on promotional material while informing potential clients that their choice of designer is qualified to provide fee charging advice.
