Vanessa Brady, President of SBID, said: “After a great deal of work, much discussion and international meetings we will soon publish an NCIDQ exam that fits the needs of design professionals in Britain. This is an important opportunity for SBID and NCIDQ to separate decorators’ skills from designers’ legalities and help define the interior design profession. It is an opportunity for designers to gain an important new qualification as well as access to a global network and resource register.
“The introduction of the NCIDQ qualification on this side of the Atlantic will work alongside the ECIA’s new Charter on training and education to enhance our profession.”
NCIDQ Certificate holders will have completed a minimum of six years of specialised education and experience.
They have to pass a rigorous, two-day exam based on NCIDQ’s independent, comprehensive analysis of the profession and the daily practice of interior designers in a range of settings and building compliance.
The NCIDQ exam is being revised for UK designers to incorporate the knowledge, skills and regulations relevant for competences required to provide advice as an interior designer in Britain.
All NCIDQ Certificate holders (regardless of where designers physically sit the exam) can use the NCIDQ Certificate as a basis for reciprocal accreditation with SBID.
The NCIDQ qualification is scheduled to roll out and will be available to UK and European members over the summer.
