The Council is looking at key issues relating to interior design, including compliancy with the Equality Act of 2010, dementia friendly design and how design can help in infection control and the safety of patients and staff.
Healthcare design is not just hospital environments. It
should come into play in the planning of care homes, dental practices, general practice and residential homes.
Intelligently designed environments are beneficial to health professionals, employees and visitors.
For instance careful planning given to the design of accident and emergency departments in hospitals has been shown to cut levels of violence that doctors and nurses face from intoxicated or distressed patients.
Design has a big role in helping disabled people live more independent lives and stay in their own homes.
Intelligent design can also assist in the recovery of people with deep emotional or psychological conditions.
