Providing A Voice For The Whole Industry

BSPF MANAGING DIRECTOR CHRIS HAYES REFLECTS ON A BUSY START TO 2014 AND WHY THE WORK OF THE BSPF FAMILY IS SO ESSENTIAL

and having previously been on BISHTA’s Committee (as Chair) and also on PIP’s Committee; she has already had a good insight into the role of these companies and what they do to promote and support the everyday work that is needed.

Helen, the SPATEX directors and the rest of the team were delighted with the positive response to the new venue. The whole feel of the event was incredibly vibrant, and exhibitors had pulled out all of the stops with some fantastic stands.

A

I was only able to attend one of the ISPE workshops, but the feedback to Ross and his team has also been very positive. Please let SPATEX, and the ISPE know of any topics that you will want to see next year. More information on SPATEX 2014 can be found on page 38 and details for 2015 have already been released. During SPATEX, the industry Gala Dinner included the BISHTA and SPATA awards and for the first time, we welcomed ISPE to re-present their awards.

It was great to see so many people from the industry supporting the event and a huge thank you to the sponsors. My congratulations to all of the award recipients for their success and they are featured later on in this edition. Last year the industry was able to recognise the outstanding achievements of Stephen Crabb and John Asher and this year, the industry recognised the achievements of Patrick Thorpe. We are very lucky to have such committed individuals working on our behalf. Issy Rickards Sanger (Elite Spas) has formally taken on the role of BSPF President

SPATA sponsors

huge thank you to all of the exhibitors, partners and visitors that made SPATEX 2014 such a huge success! I know that Michele,

Issy succeeds Martin Borley as President, who has worked tirelessly to promote the BSPF and the wider industry. Other BSPF Officers, this year, include Richard Carrington (Calorex Heat Pumps ) as Vice President, Alex Kemsley (Waterstream) Junior Vice President and Patrick Thorpe, who is Company Secretary. Their expertise is greatly appreciated.

The industry benefits from not only having the BSPF as the voice of the industry, but also SPATA (chaired by Richard Carrington) and BISHTA (chaired by Alex Kemsley) as the respective Trade Associations for swimming pools and hot tubs. PIP (chaired by Jamie Adams at Golden Coast) and SPATEX (chaired by Howard Gosling, Pool and Spa Advice) comprise the other companies in the BSPF family. Each company can call upon a team of dedicated Board, Council or Committee members working on its behalf. Much of the work done on behalf of the industry may go unnoticed, but it is important to highlight the time spent on topics such as developing European standards and also on contributing to updates on publications such as the revision of the Management of Spa Pools. The industry voice must be heard, and then the relevant key decision makers will have an even more informed position. Please look out for some of the draft European standards on domestic swimming pool water filtration, circulation and treatment which will be out for consultation this month. Finally, we are waiting to hear news of the sentencing of three people from Trade Price Group / Spaserve, and this will be a very important time for our industry. The vast

majority of ethical, law abiding companies that work in our industry will be keen to learn what sentences the three people will get for their criminal actions. BISHTA would like to acknowledge publicly the work of the consumer action group that formed to bring these men to justice and are also very grateful to those companies in the industry that provided information to assist the authorities to bring a case against them. We must all work together with the Police and Trading Standards to ensure that no one can again cause the distress and financial loss brought about by the criminal actions of the Trade Price Group. Our industry is full of committed professional people, who will show their passion for their products and continue to serve their customers fairly and honestly.

Have a great summer! SPN
