New Pisces EC Promises Super Efficient Dehumidification And Lower Costs
The new Heatstar Pisces unit launched at SPATEX and the UK Pool & Spa Expo features a unique patented system – Ambient Conductive Dehumidification (ACD) – to achieve a dehumidification effect upon the recirculated pool room air, so reducing the quantity of fresh air introduction necessary for humidity control.
ACD dehumidification is available whenever the ambient fresh air temperature is colder than the dew point temperature of the pool room air. The dew point is the temperature at which humidity present within the room air will condense back to water. As, for example, the dew point temperature of pool room air at a typical condition of 30°C / 60% RH is 21.4°C, ACD will be available for most of the year within the UK climate and, most importantly, be particularly relevant during colder weather when the potential for heat loss through the introduction of cold fresh air into the room would be at its highest.
The Pisces EC is suitable for domestic indoor pools where a surface cover is typically used. It provides effective humidity control, full rate fresh air and both air and pool water heating – all from a single, easily installed unit.
CLOSE-CONTROL PRECISION FRESH AIR VENTILATION MANAGEMENT The Pisces regulates pool room humidity levels by introducing controlled amounts of fresh air. Within the UK, the moisture content of the outside air is always less than the air within the pool room, enabling highly effective natural dehumidification as the room air is exchanged.
The quantity of pool room air expelled to atmosphere has a significant relevance to the overall energy usage of the application. The focus of the Pisces approach is to minimise unnecessary energy loss by regulating the expelled room air quantity precisely using the combined effect of motorised air dampers and the automated power of the exhaust air fan. In the case of lightly used domestic pools equipped with surface covers, the quantity of fresh air introduction necessary to regulate satisfactory humidity levels is modest if accurate management is applied. There is no intention with the Pisces to extract or recover heat from the expelled pool room air, merely to limit at source the quantity of heat that would otherwise be lost.

‘BLUE EC’ ULTRA-EFFICIENT DIGITAL INVERTER FAN SYSTEM
Against the consideration that the permanent operation of an air fan motor may represent the largest consumer of energy within an indoor pool, the Pisces employs a very special type of digital fan to offer the best possible energy efficiency and, so, the lowest operating cost of any such system. The digital fan uses a directly driven, backward curved, centrifugal impellor, which features a DC motor coupled to an AC inverter.
‘INTELLIGENT’ AUTO-FAN – WHY RUN THE FAN AT FULL POWER WHEN YOU DON’T NEED TO?
The Pisces features ‘auto-fan’ technology, whereby the speed and power of the air recirculation fan is managed automatically to enable significant energy savings whenever there is low demand for dehumidification or air heating.
For a domestic pool equipped with a surface cover, there will typically be long durations of low demand and the energy saved by ‘auto-fan’ would be very considerable. Additionally, when the fan is operating on low power, ventilation air noise in the pool room can also be reduced.
FULLY ADJUSTABLE AIR RE-CIRCULATION AIR FLOW The air flow rate provided by the fan system can be adjusted on-site to match the exact requirement of the pool room precisely.
ILLUMINATED FAN WINDOW Another unique feature is the blue LED illuminated Perspex window, enabling the special energy saving EC fan, and it’s managed speed of rotation, to be observed at will within the plant room.
INTEGRAL SUPPORT HEATING PROVISION To ensure that the optimum pool room air and pool water temperatures are always achieved, supplementary heat emitters are incorporated within the Pisces.
These heat exchanging coils transfer heat piped from a separate heat source, typically
a fuel or heat pump boiler, into the pool room air or pool water. For installations where a separate heat pump boiler is used, special up-rated emitters and fan systems are used to compensate for the lower heating circuit temperature. If there is no boiler available, then direct electric heat emitters are also offered as an option.
A high capacity pool water heat emitter is used to ensure a swift initial warm-up period for the pool from cold and, for salt water pools, special titanium coils are available. The Pisces features a ‘heat demand’ signal which can be used to activate the heat source and which also incorporates a pool water overheat safety feature.
DIGITAL CONTROL PANEL All functions of the Pisces are completely automatic. Once the desired pool water and pool room air temperatures are entered on the intuitive and easy-to-set control panel, the integral sensors and processors accurately self-govern the various modes of operation.
