Going back to the shows, we have reviews for each in this edition. Both were great for SPN and allowed us to speak to more people than ever before. Across the two, there was a wealth of products on display and some great new innovations, some of which are included in this edition but the big question that was being asked by both exhibitors and visitors at each was “does the UK really need two industry shows?” Perhaps the question should really be “can
Also in this issue, we report on the winners at the SPATA and BISHTA Awards. The annual event really does focus the spotlight on quality in the UK and our front cover features one such example from ‘UK Pool Contractor of the Year’ (and winner of numerous other awards), Lancashire based, John Preston Pool & Spa Services. Congratulations to them and all the other prize recipients from this year’s event which was the busiest I have seen it.
Last issue, I mentioned that having spoken to many industry colleagues, there seemed to be an air of optimism about the year ahead and with SPN having just exhibited at both the SPATEX trade show in Coventry and the UK Pool & Spa Expo in Birmingham, that feeling defi nitely seems to be shared by the majority of people across the industry. A feeling that can only have been boosted further as since the shows in February, and after the wettest winter since records began, the rain has fi nally stopped. The widespread fl oods are no longer the lead story on the news and there have actually been a few decent days of sunshine around. Add to that economic predictions of a growth year ahead and the signs are that 2014 has all the right ingredients to be a memorable year. I just hope I haven’t spoken too soon!
Saving energy (and therefore money) is a key topic this issue with heat pumps and automatic pool covers both being featured as green and cost saving technologies. We also look at getting outdoor pools ready for the new season plus explore the growing market of quality one-piece and fi breglass pools that are taking the hassle out of installation for both pool builders and owners alike.
Add to that our usual round up of all the latest news from across the wet leisure industry and this edition is one not to be missed!
If you have a swimming pool, hot tub or spa installation that you couldn’t enter in the SPATA or BISHTA Awards but feel is an aw ard winner in its own right, please do get in touch. As the offi cial magazine for the UK industry and oldest title in the market, where possible, we’re always happy to showcase relevant and quality projects in SPN or on our website.
Here’s to a great start to the season! Jon Wadeson – Editor You can now follow SPN on:
