For your students in grades 4, 5, and 6, Stephanie Fridley has contacted Tom Shelton to conduct the MCDA 4,5,6 Youth Honor Choir. We are in for a treat!! Tom is an Assistant Professor at Westminster Choir College. He is a past national R&S (repertoire & standards) chair for junior high/middle school choirs, and is a past ACDA southern division president. At Westminster he focuses on children’s and youth music, and in addition he conducts the high school level Princeton Girlchoir’s Cantores ensemble and the Children’s Choir (grades 4-6) at Doylestown Presbyterian church in Doylestown, PA.

Middle school teachers, never fear!!! Your 7th and 8th grade students will have a GREAT time in July as a member of the MCDA 7 & 8 Youth Honor Choir. Christy Gentili has found a great clinician to work with your students. Composer/Clinician Laura Farnell is very excited to come to Missouri and work with our students. Laura taught middle level students for several years and had an award-winning program in Texas. She enjoys working with and writing/arranging music for this age level. She is a graduate of Baylor University. She has works published by several music publishers.

Also coming from Texas is our MCDA 9-10 Youth Honor Choir conductor, Derrick Brookins. Big thanks to Jason Huneycutt who contacted Derrick, who is the director of choirs at Plano Senior High School. Derrick is a professional singer having sung with The Moses Hogan Singers for 15 years. He was also the selected choral conductor for the 2007 national ACDA convention in Miami. Both his undergraduate and graduate degrees are from the University of North Texas, Denton. This will be an awesome experience for your students!!!!!

You say that you work with adults in a church or community choir setting and none of the above choirs fit your singers?? Well you are certainly lucky. Your adult singers can sing with the MCDA Church & Community Honor Choir. Carla Oliver has found the perfect director to work with your singers and quite a director it is. We are honored to have GRAMMY award winning conductor Charles Bruffy working with our choir this summer. A Missouri native and graduate of Missouri universities, Charles is the conductor of the Kansas City Chorale, the Phoenix Chorale and is the chorus director of the Kansas City Symphony.

Check out the website www.MOACDA.org for information on the conference and the audition process. You will not want to miss this EXCITING conference. MCDA. July 23- 26. Jefferson City. Hope to see you there!!!

Dave Dickey, MAJE President

First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone involved with the recent 2014 MMEA Conference. I thought Missouri was well represented with the students performing in the All-State Band, All-State Choir, All-State Jazz, and All-State Orchestra. I know there were many proud parents, band directors, and private lesson instructors enjoying the ensembles. Also congratulations and thank you to Rob Nichols, Gary Brandes, and everyone involved in putting together another successful MMEA Conference.
