NEWS FROM THE DISTRICT PRESIDENTS

NORTHWEST DISTRICT #1 Kevin Griffin, MMEA District Past-president

Greetings from the northwest district! I would like to thank the fine teachers of the northwest district #1 for providing me with the opportunity of serving as district president for the past two years! I have learned a great deal about the important role that MMEA plays in the education of our students. Our district, state, and national organizations spend countless hours preparing and implementing educational opportunities for our students as well as professional development opportunities for our teachers. What a quality organization in every sense of the matter!

I also want to commend Tom Brockman, Matt Bonsignore, Christie Ottinger, Brice Willson, Ted Keck, and Jamie Heil for their service as vice-presidents in our district over these past years! Your efforts have culminated in outstanding performance opportunities for the students of the northwest district #1! We are also indebted to Dave Goodwin for his excellent fiscal management of our district funds – thank you Dave!

Finally, please remember to frequently visit our web site, www.nwmmea.net, for updated information on activities, dates, times, etc. Our executive board will continue to plan for the upcoming year and this is the best forum to keep up with developments in our district. Last, I want to encourage you as you finish the school year with performances, to please consider applying for your group to be accepted to perform at our MMEA Convention next winter. You can find the guidelines for application in the MSM or on the state MMEA web site, www.mmea. net.

NORTHEAST DISTRICT #2 Brad Heckman, MMEA District Past-president

We are all composing and creating plans and ideas for everything from our contest pieces, music, letters to parents, and even vacations. No matter what you are “composing” I think most would recommend a plan for their compositions. I’m no expert in composition but I do know that the better the plan is, the better the composition is. As I compose my last article for the Missouri School Music magazine, my thoughts are of the years ahead. The next couple of years in the northeast district will be led by Mr. Tom Sweeney who is already finishing up with plans from the last two years and composing his own script for the next two years. Most of our officers in the northeast district stayed in office with only two changes. Both are in vocal music at the high school and elementary level. I’d also like to welcome Marc Lewis as our new president-elect. Tom and Marc are highly professional, thorough and
