Music Advocacy Day March 25, 2014
As a part of the month-long celebration of Music in Our Schools Month I hope you will consider
advocating for music education at our state capitol. March is an ideal time to speak with your state
representatives and senators to share the positive values of music education for all children. Music advocacy is most effective when it is ongoing, proactive and a positive
community activity. I can think of no stronger voice than the MMEA community to promote the benefits of music education.
As an advocate for music education you are part of a long and proud
tradition of putting students first. Effective music education advocacy is focused on music for students – all students. Your defense of music
education needs to be based on the belief that making music is essential to learning, to the enjoyment of life and to the preservation of culture.
Visit
www.mmea.net/content/music-advocacy-day to learn more about how you can be a part of this important work for music education. At the web site you will learn how to find your representative or senator so you can schedule an appointment to visit with them. Talking points and MMEA’s position on education related issues are provided. “Leave behind” materials are available that you can leave with all those that you visit.
Let your voice be heard! Turn your passion for music into action for music education. Join us on March 25, 2014, in Jefferson City and together we can keep music a vital part of our children’s education.
