HAL CRUTTENDEN – COMEDY Fri 01 Nov @ 8pm


THE ‘TOUGH LUVVIE’ TOUR Following stand out performances on Live At The Apollo (BBC1), The Royal Variety Performance (ITV1) and The Edinburgh Comedy Gala (BBC3), Hal is being strongly tipped as the next big thing. Hal’s comedy is simultaneously warm and catty, straight and camp, it’s a lovely mix that has made him a regular guest on John Bishops’s Only Joking (Sky1) and led to not one, but two sitcoms being produced this year.


WINSTON ON THE RUN - THEATRE


Sat 02 Nov @ 7.30pm Winston on the Run tells the story of young Winston Churchill’s escapades as a war reporter in nineteenth-century South Africa. Captured during a Boer ambush, Churchill spent his twenty-fifth birthday in a gloomy prisoner-of-war camp. The play opens with Churchill holed up at the bottom of a mineshaft - wanted ‘Dead or Alive’. With no-one left to talk to but a pack of rats, Churchill weaves his compelling adventure story with an unsparing reflection on his early life. What emerges is a penetrating and exciting portrait of an ambitious young man striving to make his first steps in the world.


ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LIVE –


LES VEPRES SICILLIENNES Mon 04 Nov @ 5.45pm By Giuseppe Verdi | Opera in five acts Sung in French Antonio Pappano conducts a star cast that includes Bryan Hymel, Marina Polavskaya, Erwin Schrott and Michael Volle. Paris in 1855, when the opera was first performed, provides the starting point for the interpretation by celebrated Norwegian born director Stefan Herheim, making his Covent Garden debut. The opera ballet plays a significant role too, with Johann Kobborg choreographing for dancers from The Royal Ballet and Royal Danish Ballet. The story is set to impassioned and dramatic music, rich in showpiece arias and ensembles and with striking choruses.


DART DRAMA FESTIVAL Fri 08 & Sat 09 Nov @ 7.30pm


Into its 7th year the Dart Drama Festival continues to delight audiences with its eclectic mix of theatre performed by local drama groups.


Ditsum Players, the Inn Theatre Company, Salcombe Players, and Stoke Fleming Operatic and Dramatic Society will be performing a 30 minute One Act play of their choice in the professional environment of the Flavel Theatre.


The festival, which is a community project, was set up to promote and showcase the work and talents of groups to a wider audience.


ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY LIVE –


RICHARD II With David Tennant Wed 13 Nov @ 7pm We’re thrilled to bring you the first ever live cinema broadcast from the stage of the RSC. We kick-start an exciting new season with the sellout production of Richard II (the fastest selling show in the RSC’s history), with David Tennant in the title


role and directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran. Richard is King, ordained by God to lead his people. But he is also a man of very human weakness. A man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that will last 100 years.


TOM POSTER AND NADIA WIJZENBEEK - MUSIC


Sat 16 Nov @ 7.30pm Nadia Wijzenbeek (violin), Tom Poster (piano) are both members of the Aronowitz Ensemble, who appeared at the Dartmouth Music Festival in 2010. Their programme includes solo and duo masterpieces by Chopin, Debussy and Prokofiev, concluding with Brahms’ radiant Sonata in G major.

FIESTA - MUSIC Sat 23 Nov @ 7.30pm Take a relaxing, retro journey into the intriguing and uplifting world of Clare Teal’s legendary Festive Fiesta - a unique blend of seasonal swing, cheeky retro grooves and a smattering of cozy fireside ballads to add a little romance. This is one of the funniest and most entertaining concerts you will find. Clare is one of the most successful female British jazz singers in decades with a string of albums behind her and won British Jazz Singer of the year in both 2005 and 2007, and BBC Jazz Singer of the Year 2006.


BLUES NIGHT- RICK PAYNE- STEVE PAYNE- MUSIC


Fri 29 Nov @ 8pm Rick and Steve make a welcome return to the Flavel for an evening of acoustic roots and blues music. Often compared with Ry Cooder, slide guitar maestro Rick Payne’s performances have taken him to prime time TV, to festivals and theatres throughout the UK and the rest of the world. Variously described as one of the UK’s most outstanding and versatile guitarists, Steve Payne is also feted as a talented and non-predictable singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, wordsmith and story-teller whose compositions cross the musical boundaries from Blues to Folk to Contemporary Roots.


ROBIN INCE – COMEDY Wed 04 Dec @ 8pm


The Importance of Being Interested Award winning comedian and science enthusiast Robin Ince follows up his Happiness Through Science show with a look at his favourite scientists – Charles Darwin and Richard Feynman. Find out why we have eyebrows, why bald dogs have bad teeth, how heavy metal music makes pigs deaf and why spaghetti snaps into four pieces. It is a loving look into the minds of two giants of human imagination who changed our worldview.
