25th Stirling (Dunblane) Boys’ Brigade is a Christian organisation open and welcoming to boys of any and all faiths – and those of none – from age 5 to 18. The BB has existed in Dunblane since 1900 and in 2012/13 was the largest group in the United Kingdom, with a total of almost 180 boys and young men between its four sections. New volunteer leaders who share the Christian values of the organisation will be made welcome, too.
Enrolment for the 2013/14 session is on Friday 23rd August at Dunblane Cathedral Hall between 6pm and 8pm. Come along to find out more and sign up. Check out the website at
www.dunblanebb.org.uk for more information and enrolment forms or
facebook.com/ dunblanebb for a snapshot of this year’s activities.
Weekly meeting times are as follows (all in Cathedral Hall) Anchor Boys (P1-P3) – Wednesdays 6.05-7.10pm Junior Section (P4-P6) – Fridays 6.10-7.45pm Company Section (P7-S3) and Seniors (S4-S6) – Fridays 7.45-10.00pm and Sundays 9.30- 10.15am or 7.30-9.00pm (alternate weeks). Optional Monday sports night 7.00-8.00pm at DHS. Brass/Woodwind Band (P5-S6) – Wednesdays 7.30-8.45pm (boys must attend one of the three older sections on Fridays/Sundays to participate in band)
The Silent Ovation
Each year I attend the Dunblane Boys Brigade Annual Display and wish I was brave enough to remove myself from my seat and give them the standing ovation they deserve! But I don’t! So instead, this is my silent ovation, echoed I’m sure by many parents throughout Dunblane.
We are blessed to have the most thriving Boy’s Brigade in Dunblane. The opportunities afforded to boys from 5-18 are tremendous and wide ranging - sport, outdoor activities, music lessons, to name but a few and all with the opportunity to compete at regional and sometimes national levels. Rarely do the boys return without medals and cups. They camp, attend football and rugby matches, have a spectacular band, go off to London on theatre trips,
hike......the list is endless.
I sit and watch the achievements of all the boys and marvel at this wonderful opportunity to spend their youth pursuing worthwhile activities and I should add, at an unusually affordable price. The character of these boys is note-worthy, for example, spending their off-school snow days shoveling snow and shopping for the elderly.
All this happens because of the relentless commitment of a handful of local men. Thank you, your hard work is not unnoticed and very much appreciated. Enjoy a well earned rest.
