Pamela and Fiona’s 3 Land Challenge for 2 of us, 3 marathons in 3 countries...
3 Moonwalks in London, Edinburgh & Iceland, over a period of 5 weeks covering 78.6 miles! (sanity an optional extra)
We did it!
Well, 3 marathons in 3 countries in 5 weeks... turns out we can do it!
We got back from Iceland yesterday after probably our most diffi cult but memorable Moonwalk. Having done Edinburgh only the week before, we were pretty tired but incredibly excited about facing the Iceland challenge. With only 80 odd in the group, it was going to be very diff erent to the busy, jostling crowds we had faced in London and Edinburgh. You get cheered on by those supporting and fellow walkers keep you going when you get low and tired. Iceland would be a much lonelier experience, a remote location, only a few of us who would spread out pretty quickly according to walking speeds and a small (but wonderful) support crew driving the route to check we were all ok.
The route is worth a mention, we walked our 26.2 miles or 42 km round Lake Myvatn in the north of Iceland. Translated it means Lake of the Midges and they weren’t kidding!
Big, black fl ies to be precise which thrive in the area.
Thankfully though, before we went, we were sent a midgey hat, which in its packaging looked like it would unpack into a 4 man tent but never have we been more grateful for a piece of kit! It certainly helped, although we were lucky that most of the time a strong wind kept them away. (Special thanks to those who insisted we take their ‘skin so soft’ with us because we did come back bite free!)
The 3 Land Challenge has been an amazing time for us and although it has been a huge investment of time to fundraise and train - we have had incredible support, especially from this community. Off ers of help, donating time & prizes for our events, sponsorship from people we know and those we don’t and of course our wonderful corporate sponsors who believed we could do it before we did. Our thanks to everyone who has been involved, we couldn’t have done it without you!
As you can see, we have hit our £8,000 target. In fact at the time of print we were at £8,390 and still counting which is amazing. (
