Your children can help to plan the family holiday with you by making a holiday memory map. Take a large sheet of white paper and stick a picture of your family in the middle. Discuss all the things you each want to do on your holiday and use coloured pens to draw branches coming from the family picture – one colour for each separate branch, such as beach, games, food.

Then fi ll in sub-branches so that under “beach” you may have pictures of sandcastles, water-skis, a fi shing boat and swimmers.

Use colourful tourist brochures to add pictures, diagrams and maps.

After the holiday the children can add photographs they took of all the interesting things they did and saw.

This is an excellent way both to involve children in planning and recalling their holiday.
