Personal Reflection on Jubilee Week by Oscar Clarke

On Monday 29th April 2013, it was the start of a week of celebrations in the school. It was Dunblane Primary School’s Golden Jubilee…. 50 years!! On the first day of the week we all had a 60’s Sports Day, but it didn’t go to plan, because at lunchtime, just before it was due to start, it rained and we had to have it inside, which meant we only got to do four things. But it was still fun! On Tuesday we did the Jubilee Jig, which was a dance that our P.E. teacher choreographed and thought of all the songs. Lots of Mums and Dads came to see it and most of them joined in. On the Wednesday it was the school’s 50th anniversary and everyone went down to the Assembly Hall for a big ceremony. Lots of people gave speeches.

It

was all old teachers and people like that.

Thursday arrived and more people came in to see round the school, so some of us were Tour Guides and I was one of them. People complimented us on how well we did this and how polite we had been. The last day of our celebrations was Friday and we all got dressed up in 60’s clothes. It was so much fun. We had a special 60’s lunch and the people who had won a Golden Ticket were served on the stage, at special tables, by the teachers. In the afternoon we had a ‘Dunblane has Always had Talent Show’ and a Primary 7 group of dancers won. And that was the end of Jubilee week. It was great!

Dunblane Nursery Class Growing Group

Children from Dunblane Nursery Class recently entered the pallet garden competition at Gardening Scotland and were delighted to receive a Gold award! Inspiration for our pallet garden came from our commitment

at Dunblane Nursery to outdoor

learning, where the children have the opportunity to experience ‘forest schools’ on a weekly basis. A key aspect of forest schools is caring for the environment. As a result several children became involved in a ‘growing’ learning group, having shown an interest in looking after the environment and in creating homes for wildlife. The growing group used their knowledge of the forest and wildlife habitats to create their own living version of a favourite story, ‘The Gruffalo’.

Exploring the story and creating the garden has given the children the opportunity to look closer at the importance in caring for mini beasts and the different habitats contained within a forest setting. The children were involved in identifying the diversity of plants within the forest garden and are beginning to understand more about the life cycle of the forest and its plants. The growing group worked together to create a plan of the garden and identify the different plants and resources they would need. All the children involved are very happy to be ‘Gold medal’ winners.
