This was another industrial-unit store. There was ample free parking, good signage from the main road and a bright, attention-grabbing store sign.

10/10

There was a controlled entry gate that could only be released from inside, so there was no chance of slipping in unnoticed. I was greeted immediately and offered help.

8/10

It was very clean and thoughtfully dressed for Christmas but there were a couple of things laying about which just took the shine off it.

10/10

There was good use of mirrors to create the illusion of more space, great racking and wall locks to show off some lovely shotguns and effective lighting that made everything look ‘sharp’. The Christmas decorations lifted everything.

Help me? Know your stuff? 10/10

I asked about airguns and was led through to the other side of the unit to be shown the array of new and used guns. The member of staff was happy to stay and demonstrate everything I considered.

10/10

For a youngish chap, Josh knew what he was talking about and was easily able to differentiate between what I needed, what I wanted and what I could afford! Different actions, fi nishes, extras and requirements were all covered without fault.

Pushy or pleasing? Do I need this? 10/10

Despite Josh spending around 20 minutes extolling the virtues of a number of models, I wasn’t pressurised into anything and was allowed to handle all the guns under consideration.

10/10

I explained that the gun was a gift and that I had no idea what I needed, which can be the green light to be offered a lot of unnecessary items in the name of profi t; not here, though… a gunslip, moderator and scope were about it.

Family friendly? What’s happening and where? 10/10

It was delightful to see mini Jack Pyke clothing and junior tweed in addition to a number of things for the whole family.

8/10

Although no specifi c club or grounds were mentioned, I was informed that the information was available behind the counter.

First impressions? 6/10

This is actually two shops, with each one offering different disciplines, so I’ll cover general coarse/sea fi rst. In truth, it was a little off-putting to see a badly worn sign above the shop front, which didn’t encourage me to explore further.

Step inside? 10/10

I’d been fl ummoxed again by external appearances; the inside was far bigger than I expected, well lit, well laid out and packed with tasty tackle!

8/10

It was surprisingly clean. Perhaps I had been prematurely biased by outside appearances, but there were still odd bits that needed to be moved.

8/10

There was some superb rod racking at the front of the store, along with oodles of packed peg boards and hanging items, all of which were sensibly sorted into ‘areas’. However, fi nding certain larger items among others proved troublesome.

10/10

The staff were very attentive. When I asked for a particular product, I was led around the shop fl oor until I was standing in front of it, then had everything explained to me and alternatives suggested.

10/10

Yes they did. This is a simple answer, but is refl ected by the sheer amount of product information that I was given.

10/10

An item I enquired about wasn’t in stock but it could be ordered in quickly if I wished. I declined and the matter wasn’t pursued, nor was I made to feel as though I had wasted their time.

10/10

After selecting my purchases, I arrived at the counter only to be offered cheaper alternatives, which was nice, and, after confi rming that I was happy with my choices, no pressure was applied.

9/10

As it was situated near the sea, you would be correct in expecting a variety of holiday kits and cheaper deals to attract the occasional angler. Much of this was targeted at the younger rod and there were lots of offers, too.

What’s happening and where? 10/10

A number of staff were on duty. When I asked about carp angling, I was directed to someone with a greater knowledge of the subject. We also discussed sea angling, likely marks, boats and more!

This was a cracking shop with an excellent young man to assist. I can see why it had plenty of customers!

After initial trepidation I was very pleasantly surprised by both the shop and staff. I spent longer here than I thought I would!
