Christmas failed to work its magic on tackle shops as far as footfall and overall sales go. The poll was taken over the festive period and both


footfall and actual sales were up for slightly more dealers than last month. Yet there were still twice as many retailers reporting a fall in both monthly fi gures. Profi ts, compared with last year, were broadly similar – just one per cent down year on year.

spikes, those selling tackle via mail order and the internet found life a struggle, with more retailers than last month suffering declining sales. The overall trend remains negative with just 21 per


cent of those surveyed expecting better prospects next month (compared with 55 per cent previously). The trade is not big on January sales and the start

These took a dip compared with last month via mail order and the internet. And with Christmas done for another year, confi dence is low for a pick-up in sales. Less than half of those buoyant last month were expecting a decent new year.
