talks about the locations and services that his bureau can offer to visitors, which are often much more diverse than many real- ize.
“Lehigh Valley represents the three differ- ent areas of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, which are each unique in what they have to offer,” says Kaminetsky. “Even in Allentown, the Fogelsville section is dif- ferent than downtown Allentown, and the Bethlehem historic area is different than downtown Bethlehem. Knowing that and explaining to meeting planners and organizers where they are in relationship to the Lehigh Valley is important.”
“For instance,” he continues, “if they want to be in a downtown urban core, that will change which properties we recommend. Our job is to be educated on the different facilities and where they’re located and the strengths of each of these locations. Downtown locations will make a dine- around or walkable event easier than a rural location. It comes down to educa- tion and our CVB knowing what is offered, as well as how to sell the regions.”
Kaminetsky also refers to the bureau team at Discover Lehigh Valley as the “eyes and ears” of an event organizer every step of the way. “We’re going to help them in field- ing proposals, conducting site inspec- tions, walking through the planning process and getting in those additional supplies - anything from transportation companies to spousal tours to evening events.”
Discover Lehigh Valley keeps helping every step of the way, too. “Maybe a week out, looking at the weather and if it’s rain- ing we need to come up with the alterna- tive plan for transportation or tents for something that was supposed to be done outside,” he says. “Then down to the prepa- ration of the actual day of the event, mak- ing sure all the ‘I’s are dotted and ‘T’s crossed.”
Foreseeing hurdles is another thing the bureau can help the planner to do. For example, “the day before, you see a road construction project that you know about because you drove past it, but the organiz- er is not going to know about it. That knowledge can help them in dealing with
