LONDON LEGACY

2012 LEISURE

The 2012 Games have provided state-of-the-art sports facilities for athletics, swimming, tennis and much more, all of which will be open to the public long after the Games, leaving a lasting legacy in Newham. Staff will be needed to manage, run, maintain and promote these venues, to ensure they are used for the maximum benefit of the community, and to support and help to train future generations of British Olympic champions!

HEALTH

With the amount of new housing being built through the Stratford City and other regeneration projects, the population is expected to rise in the area, so the demand for care and health professionals will be required long after the Games.

TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY

It is clear that the London 2012 Games have boosted the capital’s tourism industry. The transformation of the area will mean that Newham will be a top tourism destination for visitors to London long after the Games have finished. There will be a demand for tour organisers, event managers and translators. There will also be a huge demand for new hotels, bars and restaurants, which will all need staff to manage and run them.

The 500-acre Olympic Park, with its major sports facilities is set within a 1,500-acre landscaped area, transforming the Lower Lea Valley. The River Lea’s unique waterways will be restored, improving the ecology and enhancing the biodiversity of the area. There will be a need for ecologists, scientists, environmental and park managers, gardeners and more, to ensure these habitats are maintained for people to enjoy in harmony with the wildlife there.

After all the excitement of the 2012 GAMES, we are left with a 500-acre Olympic Park, the largest in Europe, world-class sporting facilities, over 9,000 new homes and much more! Have a look at how the development of the area could provide you with the career you’ve always dreamed of in your local area.

RETAIL

As well as amazing shops, bars and restaurants, Westfield Stratford (the largest urban shopping centre in Europe) represents a whole host of new job opportunities in Stratford.

Where there are people, there is the opportunity to sell them things! There will be an increased demand for products: everything from food outlets, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, souvenirs, clothes, books – in fact, everything you would see on sale in your local high street.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

With the expansion in local services, from retail to leisure, comes a demand for professional services, including banking and financial advisers, accountants, solicitors and legal services, estate management, recruitment consultants and more. Businesses will also require other support services, such as printing, public relations (PR), staff training, event organisers and office supplies.

The 500-acre Olympic Park is home to major sports facilities, including the Aquatics Centre and Olympic Stadium. The Stratford City development, which includes the Olympic Village, will create more than 9,000 new homes.

The construction connected with the regeneration of an entire area of London will ensure a thriving construction industry in Newham and East London long after the Games are over.
