World Skills, the largest international skills competition for young people, took place at London’s Excel Centre. Working in partnership with the London Borough of Newham’s 14-19 team and Newham College, students from across Newham got a hands on taster into a whole host of careers in the health sector and the Newham Health Fair hosted at Newham College.
Medical professionals gave talks and ran interactive workshops, providing young people with information about the range of careers available in the health sector.
Students got to try out hands on activities to test their skills including: l ECG (Electrocardiography) Heart Monitoring l BATAK Reflex machine l Health & Fitness MOT l STAN – the lifelike patient simulator l Lung efficiency test l Testing Blood Pressure l Injecting into an arm l Taking a mock blood sample
l Speed and co-ordinaton tests – dance mats and rowing machines.
