The UK Hair and Beauty sector is growing rapidly and offers great job opportunities if you want to be part of it. Spa tourism in England alone is worth £1.4 billion a year! So you could find yourself managing a spa, styling celebrities and models for magazine photo shoots or even using your skills to help people recover from disfiguring surgery, illness or accidents. To work in the hair and beauty sector you’ll need great people skills and have lots of stamina. Most importantly, you’ll need to be excited and enthusiastic about your job!

A Dainty Doll who went back to school...


Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts took up the challenge of creating her own foundation range for girls with fair skin like herself. Nicola went back to college to study beauty, to the learn the basics about skin and make up.


She met with directors from the cosmetics company Jelly Pong Pong to create her Dainty Doll make up range, which is now available to buy from:

n Trainee hairdressers usually start on the National Minimum Wage which varies depending on age.


n Fully trained hairdressers can earn up to £20,000 a year.


n At the top, hairdressers can earn £30,000 or more, depending on employer and/or location.
