Closing its Playboy Club last month, the Palms in Las Vegas outlines redevelopment plans
Having seen the closure of its Playboy Club, the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas is investing US$50m in a reenergising make-over to make sure its celebrity status isn’t given the brush-off.
The entire casino layout will be reconfigured to maximise flow and ambiance with over 250 new slot machines being sourced and installed. The property’s Center Bar will be remodelled later this year to become a striking anchor on the casino floor.

Playboy casino The Palms in Las Vegas has closed its Playboy casino facility called the Playboy Club for undisclosed reasons with a farewell party on June 2. The Palms stated: “After a strong six-year run, the Palms Casino Resort and Playboy Enterprises will end their partnership in early June and each pursue new brand opportunities in Las Vegas nightlife. The Palms and Playboy Enterprises have shared a great relationship and wish each other future success.” The Playboy Comedy Lounge at the Palms was shut after its New Year’s Eve party sparking rumours that the Playboy Club would follow. Spokeswoman for nightclub management firm N9NE (NINE) Group Ashli Kimenker said nothing had been finalised in terms of what the space at the casino tower would be used for. The Playboy Club at the Palms opened in October 2006 with female dealers and cocktail waitresses dressed as bunny girls. Playboy founder Hugh Heffner regularly hosted events at The Playboy Club bringing a party vibe to the Palms that even Las Vegas struggled to beat.

The room renovations will kick off in July with all 428 rooms and suites in the Palms Tower being remodelled in an ‘ultra-chic and modern style.’ The mood will be ‘sensual and edgy’ while staying true to function and user friendliness. The first redesigned rooms are expected to be available to book by September. A sports- themed restaurant and lounge, Heraea will also open by the end of the year.
Belgium to keep bwin on its online gaming blacklist
The Court of First Instance in Brussels has refused to allow online operator
bwin.party to be removed from Belgian Gambling Commission’s blacklist of illegal online gaming operators saying there was no ‘legal merit.’ The company’s domain was added to the country’s blacklist for ISP blocking in May for serving customers in Belgium without a licence.
The Commission’s legal representatives ALTIUS welcomed the decision of the Court of First Instance in Brussels saying: “The President of the Court of First Instance of Brussels has denied a request by BwinParty, operator of the online gambling website
www.bwin.com, to order the Belgian Gaming Commission to remove
www.bwin.com from its blacklist and to unblock access to it. The
President found that BwinParty’s request had no legal merit.”
Philippe Vlaemminck, for ALTIUS added: “The Gaming Commission’s blacklist is an effective and legal means of informing the public that certain websites do not meet the legal requirements and are therefore illegal. This allows Belgian Internet users to avoid these sites and thus the risk of criminal sanctions. It is, furthermore, only normal that an online gambling operator that wilfully chose to undertake illegal activities cannot expect protection from the Belgian courts. Had the court granted BwinParty’s request, it would have been astonishing and would have been a slippery slope leading to all sorts of abuses. Those who choose to operate outside the law cannot then claim its protection.”
