DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE Having provided design and manufacture of complex modules for the oil and gas industry for decades, it was logical step for H&W to provide the same service to the renewables industry. H&W are currently constructing HVAC


substations for Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm for Siemens TDL. With some of the largest facilities in Europe, H&W have identified the larger HVDC substations as a target market for future development.


PRODUCTION AND STORAGE For the oil and gas industry, H&W have produced all types of foundations including monopiles, gravity bases and jackets; with its vast storage area for Just- In-Time delivery, this is also offered to the offshore wind industry.

SINCE ENTERING THE MARKET IN 2004, NEARLY 80% OF H&W’S TURNOVER IS IN OFFSHORE RENEWABLE ENERGY, SO IT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE SECTOR. WITH A HUGE INVESTMENT IN R&D, EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING, H&W HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ENTERED TWO IMPORTANT SECTORS; OFFSHORE SUBSTATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS.


INNOVATION H&W’s sister company Universal Foundation have developed an innovative foundation for offshore met masts and turbines based on the same technology as an offshore oil and gas suction anchor. It sucks itself into the sea bed, therefore no pile driving is necessary, meaning smaller and cheaper piles, reduced environmental impact, no diver intervention for the installation of anodes, and a wider selection of potential installation vessels (cheaper and more plentiful dynamically position floating vessels rather than just expensive large jack-up vessels).


An inspired control mechanism maintains verticality during the installation process, eliminating the need for transition pieces and their troublesome grouted connections. Lastly, if you wish to remove the foundation, you reverse the suction process and it un-installs itself for decommissioning or for reuse on another project.


The first commercial contract is in place for installation in Dogger Bank summer 2012.
