They were formed from the merger of the Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers (APPSS), the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA) and the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC). ADS also encompasses the British Aviation Group (BAG). Together with its regional partners, ADS represents over 2,600 companies.

NORTHERN IRELAND AND THE WIND ENERGY SECTOR ADS Northern Ireland represents the Aerospace, Defence and Security companies in the region. There are 45 member companies in Northern Ireland, representing the great engineering capability of the province.
The Wind Energy Sector is closely related in engineering terms to the Aerospace Industry and because of this link some supply chain companies also supply components into the Wind Energy Sector.
Both Queen’s University and the University of Ulster are also members of ADS Northern Ireland. The member companies and the Universities working together with ADS seek to grow the industry in Northern Ireland.
