∆ύσκολες συνθήκες επικρατούν τις πρώτες ώρες του αγώνα. Οι πιο σηµαντικές εξελίξεις έως την ώρα που γράφονται αυτές οι γραµµές, το Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing 30 µίλια νότια της Cartagena έπεσε σε κακοκαιρία και παρά τους χειρισµούς του πληρώµατος υπέστη σοβαρή ζηµιά χάνοντας τον βασικό του κορµό, σπάζοντας το άλµπουρο σε 3 µέρη. Με τις απαραίτητες επεµβάσεις και τον πλωριό Νεοζηλανδό Wade Morgan στο νερό να κόβει τα ξάρτια, η οµάδα κατάφερε να ανασυνταχτεί και να επιστρέψει στη βάση. Πρόβληµα ανέφερε και το πλήρωµα Sanya, µε ζηµιά στη γάστρα δίχως να µπορεί να προσδιορίσει. Το σκάφος ταξίδευε 30 µίλια ΝΑ µε άνε- µους που έφταναν τους 43 κόµβους, χτυπήσε σε κύµα 10.5 µέτρων. Οι κυβερνήτες πάντως δεν έκρυψαν την απογοήτευσή τους αλλά δήλωσαν ότι θα επανέλθουν το συντοµότερο δυνατό. To Camper ΕΤΝΖ µε τον Chris Nicholson στο τι- µόνι πέρασε πρώτο τις Πύλες, στο Γιβραλτάρ, και προετοιµάζονται για τις ισηµερινές νηνεµίες. Εµείς τους ακολουθούµε καθηµερινά,


During the first hours of the race the weather conditions were harsh. The most important developments till the moments these lines are being written are as follows. Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing fell in a storm 30 miles south of Cartagena and despite skilful manoeuvrings made by the members of crew she was severely damaged and lost the mast which broke in three pieces. After performing the necessary repairs and with bowman Wade Morgan from New Zealand in the water trying to cut the shrouds, the team managed to get back in shape and return to the base. Problems were also reported by the Sanya crew who mentioned a damaged hull that has not however been defined yet. The boat hit a 10.5 metre wave while underway 30 miles SE with winds reaching 43 knots. The captains didn’t fail to express their disappointment but promised to be back as soon as possible. Camper ΕΤΝΖ with Chris Nicholson at the helm was the first boat to cross the Gates of Gibraltar and now they are getting ready for the doldrums of the Equator. We follow them online every day.
