Πιο ανταγωνιστικός από ποτέ. Έτσι µπορούµε να συνοψίσουµε τον φετινό αγώνα. Στις 29 Οκτωβρίου πραγµατοποιήθηκε ο πρώτος in port Race. Ένας αγώνας εντός λιµένος σε δύο σηµαδούρες που βαθµολο- γείται και δίνει την ευκαιρία στους θεατές να απολαύσουν από κοντά τα πιο γρήγορα µονόγαστρα. Νικητής αυτής της κούρσας ήταν η οµάδα του Ian Walker το Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. Με αυτή τη σύντοµη κούρσα άνοιξε και η αυλαία για δράση και τις πιο συναρπαστικές µονοµαχίες. Στη γραµµή στήθηκαν 6 οµάδες και στο σκάφος τύπου VO70 επιβαί- νουν 11 άτοµα αθλητές µε πλούσιες περγαµηνές, µακρόχρονη εµπειρία και πολλές διακρίσεις στο ενεργητικό τους. Ο αγώνας αποτελεί ένα από τα πιο δηµοφιλή θεάµατα ενώ για τους µυηµένους είναι απλά ένα υπερθέαµα. Στην ισπανική πόλη περισσότεροι από 60.000 άνθρωποι παρακολούθησαν τον Πρίγκιπα Φίλιππο της Ισπανίας να δίνει το σήµα της εκκίνησης. Το Camper ETNZ έφυγε πρώτο και ανέµους που έφτα- ναν στιγµιαία έως και 30 κόµβους. Εντός λιµένος πραγµατοποιήθηκε η κούρσα µε ένα καβατζάρισµα για να φύγουν Ν∆ προς το στενό του Γιβραλτάρ µε το Camper να οδηγεί το στόλο.
More fierce competition than ever before: this is how we can describe, in a nutshell, this year’s race. The first in-port race took place on 29th October and followed a course round two marks. A ranking list was drawn and spectators were given the opportunity to enjoy a close look at the fastest monohulls. The winner of this race was the team of Ian Walker of Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. This short race opened the stage of action and the most fascinating duals we have ever seen. Six teams were at the starting line. On board each VO70 there are 11 athletes with a long experience and several distinctions. This race is one of the most popular spectacles while insiders think of it more as a super show. More than 60,000 people watched Prince Philip of Spain fire the start of the race at the Spanish city of Alicante. Camper ETNZ crossed the starting line first with winds reaching 30 knots at certain moments. The race was held inside the port with a rounding that led the vessels SW towards the Straits of Gibraltar with Camper leading the fleet.
