And, like everything else when I get
an idea, I ran with it. So here we are 20 years later, still
doing the Kanata Sports Club Hotseat every Friday from November to the end of March. Lunch is at noon and my guests are
on for questions and answers from 1 to 2 p.m. I would like to say that I leave for home at 2 p.m., but there have been some long days at the club. The Hotseat started well before the
Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team in our community, so the early guests included the likes of Lasers head coach Archie Mulligan and Ottawa 67s head coach and GM, Brian Kilrea. In those days we also included players
and coaches from the CFL Ottawa Rough Riders football club. You can imagine trying to fill those Hotseat chairs every Friday for five months. But somehow we did it, and soon the Hotseat became a big hit for the members of the Kanata Sports Club. Since those early days, I have gotten
to know a lot of sports people in the city and have had almost all the Ottawa Senator players on the Hotseat − from Captain Daniel Alfredson, Mike Fisher, Chris Phillips to head coaches and GMs over the years (and, as we all know, there have been quite a few). One of the most memorable players
on Hotseat was Danny Heatley after he signed here and I had Chris Phillips invite him for a luncheon. Well, people were hanging off the rafters for that one! The capacity of the club is about 120 people and I would not have wanted the fire marshal in for an inspection that Friday. Another group of people I have as
guests are sportswriters from the local newspapers. I remember having Earl McCrea on the Hotseat shortly after he wrote an infamous story calling people
