Hospitals, Pharmaceutical and Biotech companies work around the clock to provide up to date skills and products that benefit their diverse patients and consumers. Health Centers such as the Mayo Clinic and the Massachusetts General Hospital provide exceptional support for their patients. They work with the top pharmaceutical and biotech companies to provide exemplary service for the diverse needs of their patients. They are also diverse employers who recognize that they must have the staff and employees who can relate to their patients. Currently in the United States, racial/ ethnic minorities comprise 28% of the population, and are expected to increase to 40% by the year 2030. Conversely, underrepresented minorities (African Americans, mainland Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans, Native Americans) comprise only 7% of the current physician workforce and 3% of the academic faculty at medical schools. With these figures in mind, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services addressed a “Healthy People Initiative” in 2010; the mission is to achieve health care parity by the end of the decade. Specific emphasis is being placed on ensuring cultural competency among health care providers. With a more diverse population of health care providers, many issues of health care disparity might be resolved. By increasing the representation of minorities in the health care workforce, more underserved populations could receive health care. A culturally diverse health care workforce can more effectively care for a diverse population. The partnerships with diverse hospitals, pharmaceutical and biotech companies with diverse populations help attain more successful communities.
