In Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 1st 2011, a Special Naturalization Ceremony was held in conjunction with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) 82nd annual convention. The ceremony was part of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services 235th annual Independence Day celebration. Honored guests included the Honorable S. Arthur Spiegel, U.S. District Court Judge, United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio; Alejandro Mayorkas, the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services at the Department of Homeland Security served as keynote speaker. Director Mayorkas himself a Cuban exile understood what it meant for the 100 new citizens who participated in the special naturalization ceremony Friday at the Duke Energy Center.
