SPN AUG 2011 WaterTesting away with the need for test strips.

The Hanna Chlorine Checker was launched to combine professional level accuracy with affordable pricing.

SWORD SCIENTIFICS GO ON STRENGTHENING INSTA TEST RANGE Speed and ease of use is a key issue for pool and spa owners says Sword Scientifics’ Tom Schofield. Sword Scientific has given its pool and spa customers access to the La Motte Pool and Spa test instruments from the United States which includes the highly respected Insta-Test strips, the multi-test ColorQ kits and the rugged Pool MGR comparator system.

Said Tom: “We have been busy strengthening the Insta-Test name and its brand awareness in the UK. Insta-Test is an unbeatable test system. We guarantee the Insta-Test pool and spa strips will help maintain proper free chlorine levels and balanced water.

“The La Motte products have always had a fantastic reputation. We’ve been able to establish the right sort of relationships and availability to make the products work here.” A new iPhone application has also been launched. The application eliminates the need to visually determine slight colour variations and also has a manual entry option that allows any smart phone or online PC user to enter the test results from their test kit or test strip.

In just seconds the programme can analyses the free chlorine, bromine, total chlorine, pH, alkalinity, total hardness, cyanuric acid, salt, biguanide or biguanide shock concentrations in the water and returns chemical treatment recommendations.

The multi-test ColorQ hand-held photometer measures test factors directly on a digital display. Featuring an innovative dual-optic design, the ColorQ provides more accuracy and more test factors.

The eXact Micro 10 photometer, available from Certikin International, was voted by readers of US publication Pool & Spa News as one of the “Top 50 Products of 2011”.

The annual readers’ choice award recognised the eXact Micro 10 for its “accurate and reliable on-site water testing results”. Its manufacturer, Industrial Test Systems, says the product is the first meter to read combined chlorine directly with 0.01 precision without the need for calculations, and the product tests for 40 water parameters using test strips.

Aimed at pool and spa professionals, the eXact Micro 10 directly reads free, total and combined chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, salt, phosphate and ozone. In transmission mode, the unit reads 30 additional parameters with the use of a conversion table.

NEW POOLTEST 9 PREMIER POPULAR WITH THE MARKET

Palintest launched the new Pooltest 9 Premier last autumn and it has already made a major impact on the market. The instrument builds on the success of its best-selling predecessor with several new features, including a waterproof USB connection and a test for Iron LR. The Pooltest 9 Premier is quick and easy to use and is fully integrated with the Palintest tablet test reagents. The new Premier model uses photometric analysis to provide accurate readings for key water testing parameters. This is vital in maintaining clean and safe swimming pool water. It has pre-programmed tests for free and total chlorine levels (standard and extended ranges available), bromine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, copper, ozone and the new addition of Iron LR. The instrument also offers the water balance test, using either the Langelier or Palintest Index.

The Pooltest 9 Premier adds the ability to store and selectively recall up to 100 test results from its on-board memory. There is also a waterproof USB port for PC connection, with no additional software required to access and download results. The original Pooltest 9 is the world’s best- selling pool photometer, and provides a high level of accuracy. The Pooltest 9 and 25 Professional Plus units from Palintest have built-in support for the new DPD XF and XT extended range chlorine test tablets.

A balanced water calculation function has also been added. The standard or extended chlorine ranges can be easily selected from the settings menu, which means that the buttons and test regimes are kept the same at all times.

ITS SYSTEM OFFERS MORE PRECISE TESTING

A new photometer from Industrial Test Systems (ITS) uses a patented method and technologies which it claims offer faster, safer, easier, and more precise water testing. The eXact Micro 7+ has seven modes which provide results for total alkalinity, bromine, calcium hardness, free chlorine, total chlorine, copper, ozone, permanganate and pH. ITS is the international division of Industrial Test Systems, a leading manufacturer of instruments designed to test water quality parameters. The eXact Micro 7+ is ideal for residential, commercial, and municipal testing. One of its claims is that it is environmentally friendly using fewer chemicals than the ordinary 10ml test. It comes with a two year warranty, automatic built-in timer for streamlined testing, and a 140 test memory while fitting comfortably in your hand. spn
