DAVID PLOTS THE DOWNFALL OF CHEMICALS IN POOLS

David Morrison has made his dislike of chemicals a very personal campaign.

His efforts to eliminate the use of them from swimming pools comes from watching his own family members in a pool suffer from side effects of too many chemicals. “I saw at firsthand the distress these problems can cause through lack of care and it made me angry. When I started looking into the problems I found that the controls of these disinfectants were greatly out of balance, despite assurances to the contrary.

“I wanted to do something about it.” True to his word he has, by developing a system of disinfection in swimming pools, without the use of any chemicals.

Pooltronix and its E system of keeping water at a high level of purity is becoming popular and in demand from pools of all sizes. “We seem to have struck a chord

of concern with all those running swimming pools,” added David, who now runs the business from the Isle of Wight.

The drive to perfect the Pooltronix ‘E’ system was prompted by the French Swimming Pool Federation, who through their representative, approached Pooltronix to perfect its salt electrolysis system to run in public pools to EU swimming pool standards. It is well known that standard probes cannot read free chlorine / combined chlorine with an electrolysis system on an ongoing basis. Therefore automation to European standards for public pools with saline systems up to now, has not been possible. However, Pooltronix and David Morrison have found a way and patented it.

The Pooltronix system reads free chlorine, combined chlorine, detects chloramines and destroys them.

David says that swimming pool managers and owners are turning to this radical new system in the economics of public health of pools as it offers cost savings and revenue generating opportunities as well as dealing with the chemicals issue.

“Pool managers know that chloramines attack pumps, plants and the whole infrastructure of their buildings,” he said.

Methods suggested include better ventilation, improved hygiene practices by the bathers themselves and the most important of all, the regular treatment of pool water and this means testing the water at five minute intervals.

ALL SWIM SPLASH OUT ON REAL RADIO BREAKFAST SHOW

Jane and Andrew Veysey of Cardiff based All Swim Ltd were happy to play hosts to Wales’s most listened to radio station, Real Radio, when Breakfast Show DJ duo Woody and Jagger completed one of their daily competition challenges; in which listeners can win up to £5,000 by guessing which of the two will beat the challenge.

Challenges can be anything from sheep shearing to parking a coach, and on this occasion the challenge was how long Woody could swim against the counter-current jet in the 18ft dual temperature Catalina swim spa that takes pride of place in All Swim’s impressive showroom. Real Radio’s Key Account Director Dave Quinney was the man who worked on setting up the All Swim campaign and was ecstatic with the event saying: “The campaign linked with the challenge

demonstrated a great example of a creative radio programme. All Swim were fantastic to work with and we feel that the swim spa challenge fitted well with the nature and quality of what we want to present to our listeners. Overall everyone involved is absolutely thrilled.”

All Swim were sole sponsors of the two week promotion and say that it is already proving to be a success as the level of hits coming from the radio stations website to All Swim’s is very encouraging and enquiry levels have risen as a result of the publicity.

“The showroom floor was completely soaked, and I do mean soaked,” said Jane, “but it really didn’t matter as it was such great fun and both Woody and Jagger are real characters and so professional. A lot of potential customers have contacted us asking for information on swim spas

and we were quite surprised by the fact that some people didn’t even know such a product existed! We are more than happy to have opened their eyes to the possibility of buying a swim spa, or of course any of the extensive range of pools and spas that we offer at All Swim.”

All Swim are dealers for the Catalina range of spas and swim spas.

JANE’S RACE FOR LIFE

Fresh from All Swim’s successful radio campaign, owner Jane Veysey barely had time to draw breath before taking part in and completing Cardiff’s 5k Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research on Sunday 3 July. Running in memory of long term friend Andy Witney (husband of Karen), Jane raised £525.00 and would like to express her thanks to all in the trade who kindly donated.
