which give any pool a stunning and unique look. The Elgin range offers a true marble stone effect with either a subtle blue or grey vein on a white background, offering the overall effect of a natural stone pool. Either can be manufactured as an all over patterned liner or as a pattern with a choice of tile band around the perimeter.

Tough enough for use in hydrotherapy pools, busy school pools and any commercial facility, the system will also add muscle to domestic pools and comes with a 10 year pro-rata guarantee.

LIGHT BLUE ‘WITH A TILEBAND’ FROM DELIFOL

Mike Cramp of Barry Haythorne Ltd believes it was the sudden abundance of panel pool kits in the early 70s that got the UK pool business off the ground.

“Back then I’m sure they couldn’t have imagined the range of colours and patterns available now.” The delifol heavy-duty site lining material installed by Barry Haythorne has a limited range of patterns but is produced for heavily used commercial pools where a pattern really isn’t such an issue. It obviously doesn’t put too many people off as domestic pools still make up around 75% of the company’s work.

“We are forever asking for more patterns for the UK but plain colours are far more popular in the rest of Europe. delifol offers a light and a dark grey (granite) in response to demand from the Italians. There is a light and a dark green, and the deep marine blue colour makes three different blues on offer. If you add in the white, sand and black, these 10 plain colours are often ignored but can look fantastic in the right setting. “On a trip to the factory last year we asked the reps which of the two mosaic patterns was the most popular for a tileband in other countries: apparently, a ‘tileband’ is a very English thing. “We’ve installed far more of the granite and sand colour material although, the delifol Green Marble pattern which looks great in a pool has definitely made a bit of a comeback in the last year or two.

“From an installer’s point of view we really like to use the random patterns, especially on difficult shapes as they hide the welded seams so well. They’ll also disguise the fact that a pool is out of level, as we had recently. The customer was determined to have a ‘tiled’ pool and was adamant that he wanted the Mosaic Aqua pattern even if it meant having eight tiles visible above the water in one corner and only four on the other side.

“It really is the most realistic tile pattern on the market at the moment and very easy to

match the tiles up as you would with real mosaics. If the floor is good, you really can play ‘hunt the seam’ afterwards.

“And with all these fabulous colours and patterns available, the shame is that, by far the most popular choice is still light blue with a tile band!”
