3. Anti-ageing Beauty Products

Mintel Beauty Innovation took visitors to this year’s in-cosmetics’ Innovation Zone on a whistle stop tour of the global anti-ageing market. Laid out in front of an innovation map of the world, four display areas housed products selected by Mintel’s global team of beauty experts. Each product was chosen from Mintel’s Global New Products Database (GNPD) to represent the latest ingredients, formats and claims from products sold in Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America.

Asia

Visitors were encouraged to open and test the products for themselves, and the one that drew the most attention was Kanebo’s Impress Concentrate Mask 3D, which is said to contain as much anti-ageing ingredients as an entire bottle of anti-ageing serum. The masks were displayed next to four other Asian products with eye-catching ingredients such as the placenta to be found in Bb Laboratories’ Placen Milk Essence, and the EGF-mimic peptide contained in Nanoegg Research Laboratories’ Perfect Age Lift Cream, which is formulated to firm the jawline.

Europe The European products concentrated on age

segmentation. As its name suggests, the SVR Specilift 35+ range is formulated for women in their mid-30s and beyond, who are noticing the first signs of ageing. New Cells Creator Anti-Wrinkle Firming Light Cream uses pro-retinol to help create new skin cells, promote DNA repair and maximise collagen synthesis. Natura, a Brazilian brand that Mintel’s shoppers picked up in France, has created the Chronos range, which it has divided into unusually narrow age bands. For the show, Mintel selected 60+ Pronounced Ageing Signs Cream since it addresses an age group often ignored by skincare brands. The cream targets deep set signs of ageing with an antioxidant complex, coffee extract and lycopene.

North America

From North America, Mintel drew on products that highlighted the polarised trends of free-from and high-tech formulations. Raw Essentials’ Night Time Firming and Nourishing Cream shows how the raw food trend has crossed over the food industry to the cosmetics market. The company says its 100% natural product has been formulated at under 115F, to maintain the integrity of its raw ingredients. Its diametric opposite comes from Peter Thomas Roth, which has packed nine wrinkle-relaxing and anti-ageing peptides and neuropeptides into its Un-Wrinkle cream, and labelled many of its ingredients according to their trade names and concentrations.

Latin America Mintel’s Latin America area focused on home-

grown, mass market anti-ageing products. From Colombia, Lissia’s Capibell Cream contains snail slime extract, which is said to firm and restructure the skin. Argentinian company Millanel, meanwhile, has created an anti-ageing cream for pregnant women. Futura Mama Age Spot Vanishing Cream contains a combination of plant oils designed to reduce the appearance of spots and freckles. Genomma Lab, from Mexico, has developed Teatrical Leche Desmaquillante, an anti-ageing cleanser containing rose and camomile extracts.
