Double naturals launch from Lessonia Lessonia launched Microzest 25 and LycoMega® at the show.
Microzest 25 is a 100% natural plant pigment range for colour cosmetics. Thanks to Lessonia's micronisation technology, the very fine powder obtained reveals intense colours. This range is as a substitute for chemically obtained micronised powders and is ideal for formulating make- up products such as pressed and loose powders, butters and lipsticks. Microzest 25 is suitable for multi-functional applications as the plant pigments permit to absorb sebum to obtain a mattifying effect and gives skin a smooth, silky and powdery feeling. This innovative, patent applied for powder is suitable for use in natural, organic and eco-friendly products. LycoMega®
is a 100% natural anti-photoageing ingredient featuring a
synergic effect with the titrated lycopene from the tomato seeds and omega 3 & 6 from the cranberry seeds. The protective effect of LycoMega®
against UVB radiation has been evaluated with human
keratinocytes culture. The result of this study shows a dose dependant photo-protective effect.
Stabilise your formulations
the natural way Shelf stability of cosmetic preparations is jeopardised by microbial growth and oxidation. Recent trends in the industry reveal a focus on natural compounds as preservatives in cosmetics. Natural alternatives derived from botanicals are therefore being explored continually by researchers at Sabinsa. Sabinsa presented two patent pending multifunctional compositions comprising essential oils and fatty acid fractions from botanicals that effectively inhibit oxidative and microbial degradation of cosmetic formulations. SabiLize Alpha combines carefully fractionated supercritical carbon dioxide extracts of cinnamon, clove, lemongrass, Garcinia indica, coconut and thyme to produce a non-irritant composition that at 0.5% w/w in colour cosmetics effectively inhibits microbial growth and oxidative deterioration. SabiLize Beta is a similar composition that is useful in colour free cosmetics.
Technology leads the way at in-cosmetics 2011
Like never before the emphasis on
technology is what appears to be shaping the cosmetics and personal care products of tomorrow, a fact that was emphasised time and time again at this year’s in-cosmetics event in Milan. Technology is appearing across the board within the industry, whether it be using the latest social media innovations, advances in logistics or processing technologies to reduce costs and environmental impact or advances in both packaging and formulation to create more effective products. More than ever, cosmetics and personal care companies are having to employ these new technologies if they want to maintain a competitive edge in this constantly evolving market. On the formulation front, which traditionally forms the key focus of the in-cosmetics event, new technologies such as fullerines, stem cell,
superoxide dismutase and epidermal growth factors are all leading the way, particularly in the all- important anti-ageing segment.
Likewise, the formulation
arena is also being shaken up by the rapid emergence of green chemistry – processes that reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing
formulations, making for a cleaner, greener product. Then there is social media.
Twitter was everywhere at the event, with a live feed
beaming out all the happenings at the show from huge screens all over the show floor, while constant talk of Facebook revolved around how it has become a crucial networking and marketing tool for the industry. The message is clear. Ignore technology and watch the competition pass you by!
