ello every- one, I hope that you all

have had some success from the little bit of info that I have given you. Fishing in all of the South Bay lakes continues to be good. As summer moves in the fish will start to move into deeper water, so you will want to start fishing the deeper coves and points. You want to look for steep rocky points and drop-offs in the coves. Jigs and crank

baits will be the best bet when fishing in these waters. When tossing a jig I like to use a brown and purple football head jig with a crawfish trailer. Cast out and let the jig sink to the bottom, then slowly reel it in making it drag along the bottom. It doesn’t hurt to jig it every once and a while. With crank baits you want to pick up some minnow and crawfish patterns. Crank baits are great because you can run them along the bottom or go after suspended fish. Suspended fish are fish that are hanging out a few feet above the bottom. Most crank baits

have the depth that they swim at print- ed on the box or they will give you a good idea of their swim depth. It may take you some time to figure out how to fish these lures and what

patterns work for you, but don’t give up because they do work in the summer heat. If you have the energy at the end of your day head out in the full moon and fish top water lures for they can be deadly for big fish at night. Now that summer is here, don’t forget about the kids and taking them out to have some fun. One of my favorite things to do is to take my family out in the afternoons and catch fish after fish. Find a nice cove that has lots of grass or a fallen tree in the water, then rig on a bobber with a three foot leader and a small hook and weight. For bait you want to use a small piece of night crawler or small minnows. Cast out near the grass or fallen tree

and get ready for some fun. If you don’t catch anything in the first twenty min- utes, move spots and try again. Moving will keep the kids from getting bored.
