Other Goings On… by Sylvia Wallace Myrvold

G

ilroy Arts Alliance and the Downtown Business Association continue to bring live music to downtown Gilroy every Friday night through July, except for Garlic Festival weekend. But that doesn’t mean there will be nothing to do that Friday. Lizarran is putting together some great par- ties both nights. So save a little energy for some downtown fun when you’re done working the festival. Bring your chairs and enjoy the gorgeous summer nights on Fifth Street between Monterey and Eigleberry, Friday from 7pm to 9pm. There are still a couple of weekends left to catch Norman, Is

That You by the Limelight Actors Theater, playing Friday and Saturday nights thru July 9. The Gilroy Center for the Arts is all set up, huge stage, comfy chairs, big tables on one side and a wonderful exhibit of The Art of Our Mothers and Fathers on the other side. This is a very casual venue where you can get together with friends and do a pot luck at your own table. Don’t even stop at home, just drive thru and pick up something or get a take out special from Lizarran. Then sit back and laugh off all the calories. Gilroy Arts Alliance and Tom Hepner present another Songwriters Showcase on July 23 featuring Steve Key, Michael Gaither, Lucas Ohio Pattie, and Robbie Dane. Bring your own dinner at 7, show begins at 8. 7341 Monterey St., Gilroy. $10 general, $8 students. Reservations: 408-472- 3292.

And please do not forget to visit our new farmers market on Sundays from 10am to 2pm on the corner of 7th and Monterey. Keep it going. July is probably the best time to come to the market with all the ripe peaches, apricots, nec- tarines and vegetables. You can also stop by our farm stands, like LJB on Fitzgerald on all the other days of the week. Support our local food sources.
