Jump Canada Finalizes The New Competitions Policy
Open Letter from the Chair of Jump Canada
In March of 2010, Jump Canada established a Task Force to review its current competition policy, to update it for future years, and to address the continuing need to stay current with the existing status of the sport in Canada.
The Task Force was charged with examining all aspects of the current Jump Canada Competi- tions Policy (JCCP) and recommend- ing any changes to the current policy that would better serve our sport. The Task Force was chaired by Bob Henselwood.
and reported back to the Jump Canada Board at Board meetings held in March and May of 2011.
Subsequently, the Jump Canada Board held a productive open house at the Equine Canada Conven- tion in January of 2011 in Ottawa to consider and discuss the Task Force recommendations on competition exclusivity. The Board then followed up with a lengthy and highly produc- tive consideration of the Task Force report and recommendations during its regularly scheduled Board meeting on Saturday, January 29, 2011. The Jump Canada Board wishes to express its sincere apprecia- tion for the time and efforts of the original Task Force members. While none of the Task Force recommenda- tions were specifically adopted, the Board did agree to create three work- ing groups to further study, revise and build upon some of the recommenda- tions. All conflicts of interest on the Jump Canada Board and within the working groups, whether real or per- ceived, were acknowledged and addressed professionally and appro- priately. The three working groups then diligently pursued their mandates
New Product Hemcon Bandages - Now Available In Canada
(St. Catharines, ON) May 24, 2011 – Farm First Aid announces the Hemcon Bandage, a revolu- tionary, new product is now available in Canada for veteri- nary first aid treatment.
First developed for military

use, this advanced bleeding con- trol gauze is formulated to stop the most severe bleeding fast, while also offering anti-bacterial properties to help prevent infec- tion caused by various forms of bacteria. Currently only avail- able as a veterinary product in Canada, it is a must have for every veterinary first aid kit. In many cases if a horse or other animal receives a severe injury, it could be hours before a veterinarian can get to the scene to administer the nec- essary treatment and stop the bleeding. With the Hemcon Bandage, the wound can be wrapped, stopping the bleeding almost instantly while awaiting veterinary help or transporta- tion to the veterinary hospital
“When I heard of this prod- uct, I was amazed and couldn’t wait to be able to offer it to Canadians. Owning a farm with over 20 horses, I have experi- enced feeling helpless watching one of my horses bleeding while wait- ing for my vet to arrive. The Hemcon bandage could be a life-saving tool that should be in every first aid kit,” says Brenda Langendoen, owner of Farm First
Farm First Aid, the Canadian distributor of the product.
Throughout the process, the Jump Canada Board has kept the best interests of the sport and the industry in mind. Following a long, thoughtful and inclusive process, the Jump Cana- da Board has agreed upon a new direction with regard to the approval of EC Gold and Platinum Competi- tions and the granting of exclusive dates. As a result, there will be a reduction in the number of exclusive dates granted across the country start- ing in 2012. It is hoped that a more dynamic, open and vital industry will emerge as a result. Approvals for these changes, in principle, have been received from Sport Council and the Equine Canada Board.
Equine Canada Announces Passing of Key West
Ottawa, ON—Equine Canada announces the loss of 2011 Dres- sage Canada Long Listed horse and declared 2011 Pan American Games mount for Tom Dvorak, Key West, an 11-year-old bay Trakehner geld- ing. Equine Canada extends its deepest condolences to Key West’s owners, riders, friends and fans. Please find below a statement released on May 13, 2011, by owner Claudia Demandt, rider Tom Dvo- rak and former rider Amy Jager.
In Memoriam: Key West
The revised Jump Canada Competition Policy will be in effect for the 2012 competition season. The Jump Canada Board has undertaken this task very seriously and, thanks to its Board members, the working groups, and to the original Task Force, Jump Canada was able to meet the tight timelines required to imple- ment the new policies.
As Chair of Jump Canada, I would like to thank and congratulate all of the groups involved in this ardu- ous and daunting task. Jump Canada is confident that the resulting policy will be beneficial to the sport and to the Jump Canada community as a whole.

Last week the Trakehner breed lost one of its bright and shiny stars. Key West, who was purchased in Neumunster as a three-year-old by the Jager and Demandt families, was euthanized at the University of Guelph after developing a painful and untreatable compression of the spinal cord.
Key West, with Tom Dvo- rak in the saddle, just returned from a tremendous show season in Wellington, Florida. Together, in the CDI 3*, they cleaned up, winning the Prix St. Georges test with over 50 other entries. Next were the Canadian trials for the Pan Am Games.
In 2010 Key West was part of the Canadian Young Rider Sil- ver Medal Team with Amy Jager. Not only was he a fantastic athlete but also a kind soul who captured the hearts of all who knew him. Key West was very much loved by his trainers, own- ers, grooms and vets.
