Exponential Named as ‘Omega Alpha Horse of the Month’ for April

Ottawa, ON—Equine Canada has named Exponential as the inaugural ‘Omega Alpha Horse of the Month,’ based his seventh place finish in the 2011 edition of the CCI 4* Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, held April 28–May 1, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, USA. Following the dressage phase, Exponential, a Canadian bred 13- year-old Thoroughbred gelding owned and ridden by Jessica Phoenix, of Cannington, ON, sat in 30th place with a score of 60.0. The pair was one of three combinations to complete Derek Di Grazia’s cross country course with no jumping or time penalties, which rocketed them up the leaderboard to eighth place. Exponential’s success continued as he and Phoenix also had a fault free jumping round to finish on their dres- sage score for seventh place over- all—only one of two riders out of the 45 member starting field to do so. In addition to her seventh place finish at Rolex, Phoenix was also awarded The Bank One Perpetual Trophy, awarded to the highest- placed rider who is also the sole owner of the horse.

“Exponential is an incredible athlete and probably the best jumper I will ever sit on,” said Phoenix, who also rode Exponential at the 2010 World Equestrian Games. “I got him as an eight-year-old that had been off the track for about a year. He had never shown before. We are just coming up with a plan for the fall, and it may include Burghley. Phoenix added, “I am so fortu- nate to have such a special partner-

Midnight Madness Coming to Brooklin with the WindReach Farm GloBall Tournament

By Kelly Bowers

On Thursday August 11th, Win- dReach Farm is holding their 7th annual GloBall tournament. A fun and entertaining challenge, partici- pants tee off at dusk to play a round of golf under the stars. This is made slightly easier using glow-in-the- dark balls and markers to lead the way. Organizers encourage everyone to come out for this exciting event. Activities include dinner, putting on test, theme holes, prizes and a round of golf with the moon and stars and your ‘glow’ to light the way! Funds raised are vital to support Win- dReach Farm’s core programs and activities.

A charitable, non profit organi- zation, WindReach Farm annually provides programs to individuals with intellectual, physical, cognitive and mental health challenges. These programs allow participation in meaningful activities that promote independence, self esteem and trans- ferable skills. The Farm receives no government funding, instead being sustained by their community fundraising efforts. Special events like this provide good hearted folk an opportunity to give their generous and much appreciated support to a worthy cause.

This one-of-a-kind event will take place at Lakeridge Links, in Brooklin, ON. The cost is $125 per golfer which includes dinner, prizes and a round of golf. Volunteers can raise important funds by sponsoring a hole for $300, donating an auction item or coming out to play in this midnight madness.
