At time of writing, the 2011 Quar- ter Horse racing season is two weeks old. The new stables at Ajax Downs are becoming a “second home” to those who have a number of racing Quarter Horses under their charge. These new barns are a definite step in the right direction toward a bright future for Quarter Racing in Ajax.

Out with the old . . . . . . . . .

The landscape at Ajax Downs has changed dramatically. The “white barn” that was a part of this scene for as long as anyone can remember, fell to the wrecker’s claw this week. Mixed feelings exist with this event.

2011 Takes Shape . . . . .

While many don’t like to see a staple such as this come down, we all know we need to make way for the bright future.

If it’s raining, it must be Sunday – or Tuesday . . . . .

Several years ago – OK - maybe more than “several” years ago, it seemed we endured rain every Sunday. A disproportionate number of week- ends had “liquid sunshine.” Like “good little Quarter Horse race peo- ple”, we sat out in the rain and simply ‘dealt’ with it. When we got home the first thing we did was open up all the equipment and let it dry out for several

days. Let’s hope 2011 is not a repeat of that year! If it is well, we will just deal with. That’s what we do. Proving they are indeed the world’s most versatile horse breed, these Quar- ter Horses take it all in stride. Howev- er, you have to wonder what they are “thinking” when we ask them to run in the mud!

2011 QROOI Yearling and Mixed Sale . . . . . . . .

The second annual sale is slated to happen September 24 at the Orangeville Fairgrounds. Building on the very successful inaugural sale held last year, the Sale Committee is look-

ing forward to making this event even better.

Consignment deadline is July 1. Consignment fee for a QROOI Mem- ber is $250. For non-members it is $300.

The Consignment Form and Con- signment Contract are available at qrooi.com under the Horse Auction drop down menu.

Group Benefit Participation . . . . . . . . . . . .

This is a last call for QROOI members who want to sign up for the Group Insurance Plan. May 31st is the deadline for applying for participation

in this plan, without having to prove insurability.
