New Miniature Horse Show Club Launched

Submitted by Garnet Barnsdale

May 28 proved to be a great day for eleven riders in atten- dance at our annual cow horse clinic. The clinician, Gene Munger from Freeland, Michigan, spent the day explaining the individual manoeuvres in the reined work and how best to exe- cute them as well as schooling horses and riders in the boxing and fence work with the cows. I am sure everyone went away more knowledgeable about showing in our event. May 29 was the second day in a row without rain! We hosted 30 entries at our first ORCHA show of the year. Gene Munger stayed to judge and went home quite impressed with the calibre of runs we presented to him - several cow runs marked in the 70s.

Equus Niagara on Saturday, May 7 in Beamsville, was a rousing suc- cess.

In the morning, clinicians demonstrated the various facets of preparation required to ready a horse for the show ring. There were also demonstrations of how to show in most classes regularly scheduled at a sanctioned show; halter, Shetland halter, halter obstacle, jumper and hunter, and driving. A delicious BBQ lunch addressed hungry attendees and was enjoyed in the glorious sun.

The club also has a year-end awards program wherby members are encouraged to nominate their horses for a small fee to be eligible for trophies/prizes that will be announced and awarded at the year-end banquet.

Club members encourage all small equine breeders, owners and enthusiasts to join. For further information go to www.shows- mallequine.com or it can be fol- lowed on Facebook by “liking” Ontario Small Equine Show Asso- ciation.

An exciting new miniature horse club show is now on the province’s equine landscape. A small group of like-minded minia- ture horse breeders, owners and showpeople recently started the non-profit show club “OSESA” (Ontario Small Equine Show Asso- ciation). The club’s goal is to pro- mote show quality small equines and create opportunities to show- case those equines in Ontario. OSESA’s first official func- tion the “Show Clinic”, held at

The afternoon events began with a clinic/fun show for partici- pants who entered to gain experi- ence and to hear advice from the clinicians. Ribbons were given down to 6th place. There was also a driving clinic in the afternoon where drivers participated in a mock driving class and were then coached and critiqued by profes- sional trainer Lori Rafter. OSESA’s future plans include organizing a AMHR/ASPC sanc- tioned show possibly as early as summer 2012 and organizing a “futurity” for Ontario breeders.
