Sonia Koczekan Clinic March 26
OnTRA’s Enhance Your Lessons clinic with Sonia Koczekan held at CARD was a smashing success. Twenty- two participants ranging from fully certi- fied instructors to those training for their certification enjoyed a day packed with information and activity. The morning was spent discussing and practicing dif- ferent techniques for mounting and dis- mounting. The clinic participants prac- ticed the techniques on each other and were able to provide feedback on how each attempt impacted on the demonstra- tion rider and how it felt for the instruc- tors. After a light lunch, we reconvened for an afternoon discussing the progres- sion from stability to mobility during exercises, lesson topics and horse choice. Again, a highly interactive session included candidates acting as riders, side walkers and instructors. After each exercise was conducted, Sonia debriefed the effi- cacy of the exer- cise/activity and the next logical progression was outlined for a vari- ety of disabilities.
The day wrapped up in the arena with a question and answer period where all the participants were able to ask any question that may not have been covered earlier in the day.
OnTRA extends their sincere thanks to Sonia Koczekan, Seana Waldon and all of the CARD volunteers who worked so very hard to make this day a success. We would also like to thank our participants for their exchange of ideas. Your willingness to get involved and ask questions helped ensure we had an engaging day full of information that was useful for everyone.
OnTRA Welcomes Donation from Artist Peter Snyder
OnTRA would like to express thanks to Peter Etril Snyder for his wonderful donation of coffee table books titled ‘The Painted Horse. The book brings together quite a number of his paintings that deal with hors- es. OnTRA has donated many of these books to our member centres for their use as gifts or fundraising
tools but they are also available for sale from the OnTRA website –
www.ontra.ca/books-and- videos.html. The books retail for $60 but are available for sale from the OnTRA website for $50. Check out a sample of his work - -
