LAST TILE IN PLACE AT OLYMPIC POOL
The last tile has been laid at the new Olympic aquatics centre in London. Paralympic Swimming gold medallist Liz Johnson, had the honour of laying the last of the 180,000 tiles which make up the Olympic pool, diving pools and training pools in the new building. The 50 metre training pool has already been filled and the other pools are due to be filled soon, so things are well on schedule for the tests taking place this summer to ensure everything is ready for the games. The pool has all of the seating in place and the changing rooms are all ready. There is also temporary seating in the area to house the extra people that will be present to watch the Olympic events. After the Olympics, the aquatics centre will provide a fantastic facility for swimmers and divers of all abilities and ages. It will be used by the community as well as the elite and will have 2,500 seats with two 50m pools and a diving pool with a dry diving area too.

ETATRON APPOINTS GOLDEN COAST AS EXCLUSIVE UK PARTNER
Golden Coast has been appointed the exclusive UK partner for the pool and spa sector by Italian-based Etatron, taking over the supply and distribution of chemical dosing, metering pumps and controllers. Golden Coast will now supply the Etatron range of electronic manual and automatic metering pumps, as well as pH, redox and chlorine controllers and hold stock of spare components and accessories. The agreement includes the supply and distribution of Etatron’s MyPool B, the ‘no nonsense’ intuitive touch pad controller.
With its user-friendly menu, set-up and operation for domestic swimming pools, the controller automatically controls pH, the most critical element of water balance or sanitiser levels. Easy to install and even
easier to use, MyPool B
will pump acid, alkali or sanitiser solutions to make water maintenance easy and cost effective. Golden Coast has introduced two kits based on the cost-saving Etatron DLX microcontroller dosing pump
system for swimming pools up to a 600 cubic metre capacity. Available for either pH or redox applications, the DLX provides users with a variety of optional flow-rate control and regulation settings.

The historic Camberwell Baths have been opened for swimming by Southwark Council following two years of restoration work and a £4.7m investment. A local community event and opening was attended by comedienne Jo Brand who used to swim at the pool in the 1970s and 1980s when she was a nurse at nearby Maudsley Hospital. Now known as Camberwell Leisure Centre, the Grade II Listed building
which once supported Victorian hygiene by providing public bathing pools, has been restored to protect the heritage of the building and providing health and leisure facilities for the community.
The original 25 metre pool has been retiled along with the learner pool, and new changing areas installed. With a new entrance area, reception and café, the centre offers a new social area for people to meet.
The refurbishment work was designed and managed by Watkins Grey International using Buxton as the contractor. The centre will feature an expanded gym and fitness area, dry side changing rooms, and restored sports hall and new youth facility.
The inclusion of local community and special interest groups has been an important consideration in the design of the new facility, which has been managed by Fusion Lifestyle, a registered charity whose primary objectives are to provide facilities and services in the interests of the social and physical welfare of local communities.
As well as running programmes for those aged over 60 and working with GP referrals, the centre provides training facilities for one of the UK’s top ranking free divers and an important part of the new project has been to include social spaces for young people.
